Appoline

Pauline “Appoline” Napoleone Fournier Patout (b. 1802)

Appoline Patout was the second wife of Pierre Simeon Patout and was amongst the original Patouts to emigrate from France to Louisiana. After the death of her husband, Appoline became head of Enterprise Plantation with the help of her sons and stepsons. Despite all the odds of the Civil War, Appoline became one of the largest and most successful producers of sugar in St. Mary Parish. She was buried under the center floor of the church she founded, St. Nicholas.
